WHAT IS BHRT (BIO-IDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY)?

BHRT stands for Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy. Natural or Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy, (BHRT), is the art and science of restoring balance to decrease the unpleasant symptoms and treat diseases caused by hormone imbalances.

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy as: Estrogen, Progesterone, Testosterone contain the same structure as the hormones produced naturally by the human body; (100%) identical. Specialized testing is performed to pinpoint which specific hormones are out of balance. Based on the test results and symptoms, an individualized treatment regimen is determined utilizing bioidentical hormones.

This is not a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to restoring balance. It is as individual as you are. For your individual needs, we offer two modalities of BHRT: Pellet Therapy and Traditional BHRT.

Pellet Hormone Replacement Therapy.

Pellet BHRT more closely mimics the body’s way of delivering these hormones to the organs in need. Hence, it is the preferred method of Hormone Replacement therapy.

A blood test is done to evaluate your hormone levels for Pellet Therapy. Based on the results, the bioidentical hormones, as small as a grain of rice, are painlessly slipped under the skin and provide continuous symptom relief for 4-6 months.

In addition to being bio-identical, pellet therapy is the only hormone delivery system that is bio-available. As your requirement for hormones increases (as with exercise, stress, illness) the pellet safely increases the amount of hormones to meet your body’s needs. So despite what life throws at you, you will have the mental, physical, and emotional capability to meet it head-on. Pellet Therapy will require re-insertion 2-3 times a year.

The benefits of Pellet Therapy over all other methods of BHRT delivery are:

  • Normal levels of each hormone are achieved in the blood utilizing very low dosages of estradiol (estrogen) and testosterone
  • Pellets release estrogen (estradiol) and testosterone directly into the bloodstream, thereby bypassing the liver.
  • Pellets are the only form of hormone replacement therapy that can release more hormone when the body demands it.
  • Pellets are made from pure crystallized, biologicaly identical estradiol (estrogen) and testosterone.
  • Pellets provide continuous symptom relief for 4-6 months.
  • Pellets are hassle-free, requiring insertions only 2-3 times a year.

Thaditional Hormone Replacement Therapy.

Traditional BHRT involves first performing a Hormone Test. Once the imbalance is determinded, the therapy is initiated, and may be in the form of creams, tablets, capsules, or troches.

Is BHRT Safer Than Synthetic HRT?

Many patients who use synthetic HRT report a variety of unpleasant side effects. Studies have shown that synthetic HRT can significantly increase risk factors for several major diseases and health disorders including:

  • Strokes (41% increase)
  • Heart Attacks (29% increase)
  • Breast Cancer (26% increase)
  • Blood Clots (200% increase)

REMEMBER: These studies were conducted using Synthetic Hormones. Not Bioidentical Hormones.

HORMONES OUT OF BALANCE CONTRIBUTE TO SEVERAL DISEASES. SYNTHETIC HORMONES HAVE BEEN SHOWN TO INCREASE THE RISKS OF STROKES, HEART DISEASE, BREAST CANCER, AND BLOOD CLOTS, WHEREAS BALANCE WITH BIOIDENTICAL HORMONES HAS NOT BEEN SHOWN TO INCREASE THESE RISKS. IN MANY STUDIES, BALANCE WITH BHRT HAS BEEN SHOWN TO BE PROTECTIVE.

How Does One Test For Hormone Imbalances?

Testing is very important in the proper diagnosis and management of hormone imbalances. For example, many of the symptoms of estrogenexcess overlap with progesterone deficiency. In order to pinpoint the specific imbalances, hormone levels must be measured and treatment individually customized. Once the imbalance is determinded, the therapy is initiated. Pellet BHRT more closely mimics the body’s way of delivering hormones to the organs in need. A blood test is done to evaluate your hormones

Bioidentical Hormone regimens are made by a compounding pharmacist for each patient individually, based on the specific symptoms and test results. The therapy may be delivered in the form of BHRT Pellets topical creams, pills, capsules, lozenges, or subdermal implants. The method of delivery is based both on the specific hormones in your preparation and your preference. This therapeutic plan is individualized andpersonalized to meet your needs.

What Are Some Of The Benefits Of Achieving Hormone Balance With BHRT?

  • Decrease or Cure: hot flashes, night sweats and insomnia.
  • Improve: mental clarity and focus.
  • Accelerate: fat burning and increased capacity to lose weight and get in shape.
  • Calm: anxiety and decrease depression.
  • Alleviate: foggy thinking and memory lapses.
  • Restore: sexual function and increase libido.
  • Reduce: hormonally triggered headaches and other PMS symptoms such as irritability, bloating, and fatigue.
  • Regulate: menstrual bleeding and decrease painful periods.
  • Possibly avoid: surgical interventions for bleeding irregularities and pelvic pain caused by hormone imbalances.

VITAMIN B-12 INJECTIONS JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED

B-12 deficiency can be brutal. At first you may feel an overall lack of energy. You think to yourself, this must the result of my job or the stress of everyday life. But then tingling sensations and muscle tremors start to appear. B-12 deficiency left untreated for a prolonged period can cause serious, permanent damage to your nervous system. This is the number one reason why you should rush to get your B-12 levels back up if you’re deficient.

But why exactly does it happen? Think of your brain and nerve system as a huge, dense tangle of wires. Around each of those wires, there’s an insulating sheath called myelin, and vitamin B-12 is involved in the synthesis and repair of this very protective layer. Without it neurons can’t conduct nerve impulses properly, and your body suffers.

So, suppose you touch a hot object. The nerves on your skin detect this and immediately transmit this info as a nerve impulse to your brain, which in turn orders your hand muscles to instinctively draw backwards. All of this happens in a fraction of a second. See why nerves are crucial?

This is the reason why B-12 deficient people often feel “pins and needles” and other nerve-related sensations. If you experience any of it, act fast. Permanent damage to nerve tissue can occur if left untreated for months. To minimize nerve damage, B-12 shots are essential for highly deficient people. Studies show that very high doses of methylcobalamin B-12 may promote neuronal function and enhance nerve regeneration.

B-12 Optimizes Your Hormones

Each cell in your body is surrounded by cell membranes. Without vitamin B-12’s stabilizing effect on those membranes, hormones are going to have a hard time entering your cells and may end up floating around in the bloodstream until excreted.

Are you deficient in B-12? Then refill your B-12 stores to optimize your hormones, and you will feel the difference. After a series of vitamin B-12 injections, most deficient people report a much better mood. You’re also likely to feel stronger, and with a healthier libido.

THE PAUKMAN BIOAGE CLINIC MAKES A DIFFERENCE IN THE FIGHT AGAINST AGING

Mother Nature shows very little mercy when it comes to the aging process. For both men and women, getting older means losing precious hormones: an inescapable fate, making you feel tired, run-down, causing lack of skin firmness and muscle tone, and decreasing your sex drive.

Luckily, at Paukman BioAge Clinic, Dr. Lev Paukman is leading the brigade against aging. His focus lies in combatting signs and symptoms of aging while decreasing the risk of disease and improving quality of life with Hormone Therapy. Simply put, HT is a medication that contains estrogen (for women; for men, testosterone) to replace that which the female body no longer makes after menopause, and has shown to effectively diminish hot flashes, night sweats, and bone loss, as well as increase sex drive, improve muscle tone, and enhance sleep. Furthermore, hormone therapy is widely postulated to have many long-term benefits, like preventing heart disease and possibly dementia.

Dr. Paukman’s hormone therapy method is shown to have some of the finest results. Through his treatments, Dr. Paukman closely monitors each patient’s individual hormone levels to optimize estrogen and maintain the improved hormonal balance. This is known as Hormone Optimization and is specific and unique to each patient. Clients can expect to experience deeper, more restful sleep, thicker and fuller hair, and improved recovery time from wounds and illnesses. For both women and men, hormone therapy will also likely show a decrease in body fat, wrinkles, cholesterol, cellulite, joint and muscle pain, fatigue, and depression, while getting your libido back in shape.

Hormone Therapy is also a great option for men, and Dr. Paukman continues to help many male patients who benefit greatly from the replacement of testosterone, promoting an enhanced sex drive, firmer muscle tone, better and more restful sleep, and greater energy.

THE NEW MIRACLE DRUG HGH

Human Growth Hormone (HGH) is being called the new miracle drug, for all of its benefits ranging from increased energy to anti-aging. So you might be asking yourself, what exactly is HGH?

Human growth hormone is produced by the pituitary gland, the master gland of the body. As the name implies, it promotes growth in children and young adults. It also helps to regulate body composition, body fluids, muscle and bone growth, sugar and fat metabolism, and heart functions. After the body stops growing, the levels of HGH decline quickly and often become very low in adult life.

In women, human growth hormone levels start to decline in their early 20s, and signs of HGH deficiency include dry skin, thinning hair, greater belly fat and the development of wrinkles. It’s been reported in studies that women produce greater amounts of growth hormone than men. Adequate HGH levels help women improve an appropriate body-fat ratio and elasticity in skin. Risk of bone loss (osteoporosis) is reduced when HGH levels in women are balanced. HGH injections can help normalize sleep patterns, improved skin elasticity, help lose excess fat and better immune system.

Men are likely to feel the first signs of aging after 35 old, such as loss of libido, weakness, baldness and memory loss. Human growth hormone have a positive impact on men, giving them the physical ability to perform in sports, which is why men often go through HGH treatment during intense training. Men who are treated with HGH experience reduction of fat, skin tightening, hair becomes healthier and thicker, and erectile dysfunction is corrected.

Human growth hormone can be injected in larger doses to promote weight loss and increase muscle size while small doses can be used for general recovery, health and ignite the anti-aging process. Presently, there is a growing list of benefits of HGH treatment in children, adolescents and adults, such as: increased muscle strength, faster healing process, enhanced weight loss, and stronger bones, just to name a few. So with all of the health benefits associated with HGH injection, what are you waiting for? Call Paukman BioAge Clinic today!

THE LEPTIN HORMONE: LATEST AND GREATEST CONQUEROR TO FIGHT EXCESSIVE WEIGHT

Some people have all the luck – and the right genetic makeup – and will never have to fight weight gain and excessive pounds.

Regrettably, far too many of us can’t make that claim, and we strive throughout our lives to win the war against overweight. In fact, one-third of Americans wrestle with corpulence their entire lives. What many of us never knew was that while on the road to slimness, we experience hormonal and electrolyte changes as we shed extra pounds. And the more weight we lose, the more hormones are diminished. What is the answer? The leptin hormone. Simply put, leptin is a hormone that is produced by the body’s fat cells and is often referred to as the “satiety hormone.” Leptin’s primary target is the hypothalamus in the brain. Leptin tells the brain that there’s enough stored fat, that we don’t need to eat, and that we can burn calories at a normal rate. Leptin’s main role is long-term regulation of energy balance: the number of calories we eat and burn, and how much fat we store in our bodies. And while leptin is very effective at keeping us from starving, with most of us, something is broken in the mechanism that is supposed to prevent us from overeating. This condition is known as leptin resistance and is now believed to be the main biological abnormality in human obesity. With leptin resistance, the brain doesn’t receive the leptin signal and erroneously thinks the body is starving, even though it has more than enough stored energy. This makes the brain change its physiology and behavior in order to regain the fat that the brain thinks the body is missing. In fact, for most people, trying to exert willpower over the leptin-driven starvation signal is next to impossible.

With Dr. Paukman and the outstanding medical professionals at the BioAge Clinic, successful weight loss is accomplished under their supervision. At BioAge Clinic, patients undergo a complete body study, thyroid check, hormone levels exam, and the most thorough, complete series of comprehensive tests to get to the bottom of your unique and individual struggle with extra pounds. Dr. Paukman and staff work with the latest, state of the art medicines and injections to raise your leptin levels, so that weight loss is a reality, and no longer a dream. Of course, lifestyle change must be incorporated, but with the help of Dr. Paukman, you will be on your way to a slimmer, more healthful you.

“Thanks to the news about leptin,” Dr. Paukman explains, “eating more and exercising less is not the cause of weight gain, it is the consequence of leptin resistance, a hormonal defect.”

TESTOSTERONE: ANTI-AGING HORMONE

Getting older has always been a tough but imminent prospect for men and women. As we grow older, hormones begin to fade and decrease. Testosterone levels drop about one per cent each year, so by age 50, your testosterone level is about 50 per cent of that in your youth! And depending on your lifestyle choices, like smoking and alcohol consumption, that number soars even higher. Although this is typically a concern for men, testosterone deficiency plays a role for women, as well.

Common negative side effects of aging – decreased metabolism, loss of energy, and dwindling sex drive – are directly correlated to hormone imbalances and testosterone loss. While these consequences can take a toll on your physical and emotional well-being, there is good news: Hormonal therapy can help negate the side effects that follow testosterone loss. So if you’re like most people and want to feel young and happy again, hormonal therapy may be the right decision for you.

Hormonal therapy is an anti-aging method that works to balance your testosterone to healthy and safe levels. Losing testosterone often causes fatigue, memory loss, weight gain, irritability, depression, prostate problems, sexual dysfunction (low sex drive, erectile dysfunction), and more. The most effective way to Testosterone Therapy is Pellet Therapy, and at Paukman BioAge Clinic, we offer safe and effective anti-aging therapy methods for those who want to improve their lives and feel young again. Dr. Paukman has found that raising testosterone levels back to what they were between the ages of 25-30 restores mental quickness and clarity, motivation, and energy levels. Mood swings and depression diminish, sex drive increases, and physical strength improves.

Hormonal therapy can be the positive change you need to feel younger. If you want to learn more about Testosterone therapy and about its benefits, request an appointment.

RECOGNIZING THE SYMPTOMS OF ANDROPAUSE

WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?

Andropause symptoms are caused by the decline in hormone levels. This is a common event that happens in most men as they age. The modern lifestyle of high stress levels and poor fitness and nutrition habits paired with an increased life expectancy have a substantial effect on the male body. With your hormone-producing glands being forced to work harder and longer, it is no wonder that hormones become imbalanced over time.

In men, this hormone imbalance often has the biggest impact on testosterone and cortisol (the stress hormone). With testosterone and cortisol levels out of proper range, men experience a range of andropause symptoms.

THESE MALE MENOPAUSE SYMPTOMS INCLUDE:

• Erectile Dysfunction
• Night Sweats in Men
• Muscle Loss
• Low Libido or Sex Drive
• Depression
• Weight Gain
• Urinary Problems
• Hot Flashes in Men
• Gynecomastia (male breasts)
• Hair Loss
• Sleep Apnea
• Fatigue
• Irritability

The imbalance of even one hormone causes imbalance in other hormones and leads to a domino effect of sorts. Men may not experience all of the above andropause symptoms, but instead commonly experience a combination of symptoms. While these symptoms are signs of andropause, they may also be symptoms of other conditions like adrenal fatigue and poor thyroid health.

THERE IS RELIEF FOR MALE MENOPAUSE SYMPTOMS

Contrary to popular belief, none of the above male menopause symptoms are just signs of old age. These andropause symptoms may be correctable through bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. It all starts with quick and simple testing that allows our expert anti-aging physicians to prescribe a individualized natural bio-identical hormone, nutrition, and supplements designed to work specifically with your body to correct your symptoms.

NUTRITION TIPS TO NATURALLY BOOST TESTOSTERONE

When it comes to building lean muscle, burning fat, boosting energy and sex drive, testosterone is King. Thankfully, testosterone is produced naturally in our bodies, by both men and women alike. Although men produce much more natural testosterone than women, the hormone is vitally important in both sexes. A healthy level of free testosterone is associated with lean muscle and fat-free mass, reduced body fat, strengthened immune system, higher energy levels and increased exercise capacity, heart health, healthy blood pressure and an increased sex drive.

This testosterone stuff is starting to sound pretty good, so, how do you get your body to make more of it? Great question, and a loaded one indeed. Having your body naturally produce more testosterone is simple in theory, but tricky in practice. In order to optimize natural testosterone production, you need to ensure that your diet, sleep schedule, workouts, and supplement regimen are all in alignment.

Foods That Increase Natural Testosterone Production
A healthy and balanced diet is crucial when looking to optimize natural testosterone production. Make sure you eat ample amounts of healthy carbohydrates such as brown rice, oatmeal, whole wheat bread and pasta, ancient grains, and sweet potatoes. Also important in manufacturing testosterone is consumption of both unsaturated and saturated fats as well as cholesterol. Yeah, I said cholesterol. Remember, consumption of dietary cholesterol is very different than blood cholesterol (LDL/HDL) and consuming a healthy amount of cholesterol from oysters, eggs, and many other foods is needed to produce sex hormones such as testosterone. Believe it or not, cholesterol is the building block of all sex hormones, including testosterone, and without cholesterol your body can’t produce testosterone. Last but not least, don’t forget to eat plenty of lean protein from lean meats, fish, and organic milk. If you’re vegetarian, try and eat plenty of black beans, wild and brown rice, and high protein fruits/veggies like avocados, goji berries, hemp and chia seeds. The key is balance, and higher testosterone comes along with a balanced diet rich in all macro-nutrients.

Superfoods that support healthy levels of testosterone include:

Oysters: Rich in zinc and protein, oysters have been known for centuries to support health and sexual well-being.
Organic Eggs: Rich in healthy fats, cholesterol, and highly bio-available albumin protein. Eggs contain all the building blocks of testosterone as well as help repair muscle better than any other naturally ingested protein.
Liver: Full of glutamine and healthy fats. Try some liver pate served with whole wheat crackers, bleu cheese and a nice glass of red wine. Please, only one glass of wine.
Garlic: Rich in allicin, shown to improve blood flow. Garlic also naturally reduces LDL cholesterol, meaning more good cholesterol for testosterone production.
Chocolate: Known for centuries to be a natural aphrodisiac, the rich smell of chocolate alone is enough to set the mood.
Broccoli & Cabbage: Both contain indole-3-carbinol, shown to reduce estrogen levels and in return raise testosterone.
Avocados: High in vitamin B6, folic acid, and plenty of healthy monounsaturated fats to send your testosterone levels soaring through the roof.
Almonds: Almonds are full of the building blocks of testosterone. Eat them everyday if you can. They are also a great food choice for dieters and also for people looking to add lean muscle.
Organic Beef: Preferably grass-fed, but a little organic corn-fed marble never hurt anyone, right? Organic beef is loaded with amino acids, natural creatine, and saturated fats that promote optimal levels of testosterone.
Organic Milk: Full of healthy fats and casein + whey protein, milk’s got it what it takes to boost your testosterone.

Supplements That Increase Natural Testosterone Production
When it comes to dietary supplements that boost natural testosterone, you’ll stumble across a multitude of options all making a storm of various claims. It’s important to understand the difference between these products and pick the one that’s right for you. Looking at all the testosterone boosting supplements on the market, you can categorize them into one of two basic groups:

LOW T (LOW TESTOSTERONE)

Low T (Testosterone) is a hormone produced in the body and gives males their “manly” characteristics. During puberty testosterone is responsible for building muscles, giving men the hair on their chest, and providing them with a deeper voice than women. After men reach the age of 30, a steady decline can be seen in testosterone levels. This is completely normal and is just a part of the aging process. However, as testosterone begins to decline other symptoms may begin to appear, such as sexual dysfunction, hair loss, or even loss in bone density.

Having Low T isn’t just about sexual dysfunction in men, but also has many other symptoms associated with it. Some men may notice that they are gaining weight or are unable to gain muscle mass like they once were able to. Others may notice a loss of energy or lack of motivation. Some men might even notice a loss of hair or mood swings. These are all symptoms caused by having Low T.

So is there a solution for treating Low T? And the answer is YES! At Paukman BioAge Clinic, Dr. Paukman first runs a panel of test to pinpoint the exact problem. From their he is able to customize a specific hormone therapy plan that stabilize your hormone levels, thus reducing the side effects you may be facing from the effects of Low T. Most patients notice a result within one day while some report that the therapy takes up to six months before seeing results.

At Paukman BioAge Clinic, our bio-identical hormones are delivered via implantation under the skin or through a cream applied to the skin, as opposed to traditional pills. This avoids them from being broken down in the liver to toxic products that can turn on cancer genes.

Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) allows for very flexible and individualized dosing as multiple hormones can be combined for balanced replacement that addresses multiple symptoms at once. They are prescribed, like other medications, and a specially trained pharmacist creates a custom compound that is specific for your therapy.

NOT GETTING A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP MAY BE AFFECTING MORE THAN YOU REALIZE

Is your lack of a good night’s sleep affecting your health or is your health affecting your ability to get a good night’s sleep? According to Jerome Goodman’s article “The Secrets of Sleep” in the October 23, 2017 issue of the New Yorker, sleep issues and disorders are common and gaining the attention of the medical field:

“There’s a field of sleep science dedicated to the biology of repose. Sleep medicine has become a specialty, with fellowship training programs and clinics devoted to caring for those suffering from sleep disorders. And these disorders are not rare. Some forty-seven million adults, according to the National Sleep Foundation, do not get a restorative night’s sleep. In the workplace, sleep deprivation results in injuries and decreased productivity, which is thought to cost the U.S. eighteen billion dollars each year. As many as 1.2 million car crashes—twenty per cent of the annual total—can be attributed to tired drivers, so it could be said that lack of sleep causes thousands of deaths and injuries every year.”

Goodman continues, referencing the work of Meir Kryger:

“Kryger offers a comprehensive analysis of physical conditions that can impair our sleep. Women may experience insomnia owing to the normal hormonal fluctuations of the menstrual cycle and to the changes in hormonal regulation that occur with menopause. (He is rightly cautious about whether so-called “andropause,” a decline in testosterone levels among one to two per cent of men as they age, also contributes to insomnia.) Restless-leg syndrome, which causes lower limbs to spontaneously move and often cramp, is associated with certain vitamin deficiencies but often occurs without a known reason. It is a common cause of disturbed sleep in the elderly, and treatment varies from replenishing the deficient vitamin to prescribing drugs that alter neurotransmitters in the brain.”

Paukman BioAge Clinic also has several therapies that can help both your sleep and your health.
